Welcome to my webpage! Let me tell you a little about myself and my history with Heights. I have been teaching at Wisconsin Heights since the fall of 1997, and I have seen a lot of changes over the years! When I started here, there were only four English classes in total, one for each grade in the high school. Since students have such different interests and abilities and goals, I thought it was a bad idea to put every freshman in the same 9th grade English class, every sophomore in the same 10th grade English class, and so on for four years, so I started inventing new classes. Now the English department offers at least three different classes for every grade! Some classes are required, but there is a class to fit nearly every interest and to teach a variety of skills. Students of every grade can choose more or less challenging classes, and they can choose classes that focus on literature, composition, or research, or that teach general skills for reading and writing well.
Currently, I teach AP English Language and Composition and College Reading and Writing every year, and Comparative Literature and Research in the Sciences and Humanities on alternating years.
Outside of school, I love to spend time with my husband, my young son and our two dogs. We take frequent walks in the woods, listen to a wide variety of music and read a huge number of books. Before we became parents, my husband and I used to travel overseas at least once a year, and now that my son is getting older, we are starting to travel as a family. I want my son to enjoy and appreciate the things that I think make life interesting and fun: different cultures, diverse foods, good books and music, learning about anything and everything, and spending time with friends and family.
I enjoy being a teacher. I love the diverse, interesting, and fun students I have. For the most part, they are kind and respectful toward me, and I try to return the favor. I feel very fortunate to work with my smart, considerate and creative colleagues and to feel valued and supported by parents and community members.
